The Jackrabbits are 5 and 0 and look like they may contend for their first trip to the playoffs since 2003.  The Jackrabbits beat their arch-rival Mesquite Poteet 37 to 35 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium to record their first district win of the season.  The dynamic-duo of Peter Smith and Blake Branton rolled up 264 yards rushing.  The Jackrabbits broke on top just 3:38 into the first quarter on a 4 yard run by Peter Smith.  The pirates answered with 5:42 left in the quarter on a 1 yard run by Chris Bibins.  Late in the quarter the Jackrabbits received a 2 point gift in the form of a safety after the ball sailed over the Poteet punters head and he had to kick the ball out of the back of the end zone.  The Jackrabbits wasted no time scoring on a 56 yard run by Peter Smith.  On the play the Jackrabbit offensive line opened up a huge hole for Smith to run through and after breaking a tackle Smith was off to the races out running the Pirate defenders giving the Jackrabbits a 16 to 7 lead.   The Pirates came right back and scored with just 10 seconds left in the first half making the score 16 to 14.  The Jackrabbits did not score again until near the end of the half with just 23 seconds left in the half on a 15 yard pass from Blake Branton to Kezie Camp Kezie Camp giving the Jackrabbits a 23 to 14 half time lead.

The Jackrabbits got on the board at 8:33 of the 3rd quarter on a 2 yard run by Blake Branton.  Tucker Burke's kick was good and the Jackrabbits had a 30 to 14 lead.  The Pirates came right back and scored on a 24 yard pass to close the gap at 30 to 20 after the 2 point conversion run failed.  On the ensuing kickoff the jackrabbit kick returner was trapped for a safety making the score 30 to 22 with 5:11 left in the 3rd quarter.  The Jackrabbits scored again mid way through the 4th quarter on a 3 yard run by Blake Branton to extend their lead to 37 to 22with 7:22 left in the game.   Poteet wasted no time scoring and got back on the board quickley on a 1 yard run by Bibins and the PAT was good and the Pirates had cut the Jackrabbit lead to 37 to 29 with 6:30 left in the game.  The Pirates caught the Jackrabbits off guard and pulled off a text book on-side kick and again scored quickly on a 6 yard pass from Bibins to Slater to cut the lead to 37 to 35.  The try for 2 failed and the Jackrabbits were holding a slim lead 37 to 35 with 4:01 left to play.  The Pirates on-side kick failed and the Jackrabbits had the ball at mid field only to fumble on the first play and the Pirates recovered.  The Jackrabbit defense rose to the ocassion and the Pirates turned the ball over to the Jackrabbits.  The Jackrabbits ran out the clock after Branton ran for a critical first down.

Peter Smith led all rushers with  171 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns.  Blake Branton ran for 93 yards and passed for 105 yards, scoring 2 touchdowns and passing for one.

Courtland Crumby passed for 209 yards for Mesquite Poteet.
