The Jackrabbits received the opening kickoff and could not move the ball on their first possession and went 3 and out. The Hawks did manage a first down on their first possession but the Jackrabbit defense held after 5 plays and the Hawks had to punt. Andre DeRosier took the punt on his own 25 yard line and returned it to the Hawks 16. On the return DeRosier was brilliant breaking several tackles and following his blockers. The Jackrabbits moved the ball to the 8 yard line and on 3rd down Landon Hartwick ran to his left for the score. Thomas Moreland?s kick was good and with 4:43 left in the 1st quarter the Jackrabbits took a 7 to 0 lead. Moreland?s kickoff went deep into the end zone for a touch back and the Hawks started their next series from their 20 yard line. The Hawks went 3 and out and punted back to the Jackrabbits. Josh Hughes ran the punt back to the Heath 35. On 1st down Chad Laury ran a reverse to the Hawks 7 yard line. Sophomore Peter Smith ran the ball in from the 7 to gibe the Jackrabbits a 13 to 0 lead. Thomas Moreland?s kick was tipped and fell short and the Jackrabbits led 13 to 0 with 3:16 left in the quarter. On the ensuing kickoff Heath fielded the kick at the 1 yard line and returned it to the 34 yard line. The Jackrabbit defense held the Hawks and on the 4th down attempt Tyler Sanders stopped the Heath runner for a 4 yard loss. The Jackrabbit offense was back in business again at the Heath 30 yard line. Jackrabbits were backed up to the Heath 48 after running a play and a 15 yard penalty Landon Hartwick passed to Austin Williams for 25 yards and the Jackrabbits were at the Heath 23 yard line with 1:02 left in the quarter. Heath was then penalized half the distance to the goal line. On the next play Hartwick passed to Braydon Marquar who fought his way down to the 2 yard line. Andre Derosier ran up the middle for the score and after Moreland?s PAT the Jackrabbits had a 20 to 0 lead with just 49 seconds left in the quarter. The Hawks started to move the ball and on 2nd and 13 the Hawks tested the Jackrabbits pass defense only to have Josh Hughes intercept with 11:06 left in the 2nd quarter. The Jackrabbits ran a reverse and Austin Williams ran the ball to the Hawks 36 yard line. Facing 3rd and 6 from the 32, Peter Smith ran 22 yards to the Heath 10 yard line. The Jackrabbits had a 1st down at the Heath 10 yard line but after 3 tries and a penalty the Jackrabbits faced a 4th and 13 from the 35 yard line. The Jackrabbits went on 4th down and just missed scoring again when Hartwick?s pass was just off Chris Atterberry?s fingertips at the goal line. The Hawks took over at the 35 and after a Micah Roberts sack of Hollinshead and a pass interference penalty on the Jackrabbits the Hawks had a 1st down at the 46 yard line. The Hawks drive and stalled and had to punt. Andre' DeRosier?s great punt return was called back and the Jackrabbits were penalized back to their own 10 yard line. Andre' DeRosier ripped off 2 great runs of 23 and 11 yards before the Heath defense stiffened and stopped the Jackrabbits. The half ended with the Jackrabbits holding a 20 to 0 lead.
The 2nd half opened with the Jackrabbits kicking off to Heath. The Heath return man took the ball at the 1 yard line and returned it 16 yards to the 17. On the next play Nick Tanner intercepted Hollinshead?s tipped pass and returned it to the 20 yard line. On the next play Peter Smith ran the ball to the 11. On 3rd and 3 Andre' Derosier powered the ball into the end zone for the score. Thomas Moreland kicked the point and the Jackrabbits took a 27 to 0 lead with 9:08 of the 3rd quarter. Thomas Moreland kicked off to Heath driving the kick deep into the Heath end zone and Heath started from their 20 yard line. Heath made a couple of 1st downs before punting back to the Jackrabbits at 4:39 left in the 3rd quarter. The Jackrabbits moved the ball downfield and scored on a pass from Landon Hartwick to Andre? Derosier who dove into the end zone from the 2 for his 3rd touchdown of the game. The kick was good and the Jackrabbits led 34 to 0 with 11:47 left in the game.
The Jackrabbits dominated the Hawks in every phase of the game allowing just 53 yards rushing on 27 attempts and 68 yards passing on 8 completions. The Jackrabbits had an 80 yard punt return by Josh Hughes for a touchdown called back and were in position to score again but chose to let the clock run out rather than score again. The Jackrabbits ran the ball 41 times for 273 yards rushing with Pat Daugherty, Josh York, J.B. Everett, Alex Dennis, Jeff Sneed and Travis Floyd controlling the line of scrimmage. Peter Smith was the Jackrabbits leading rusher with 67 yards and a touchdown. Austin Williams ran the ball 2 times for 62 yards. Deondre Smith rushed 4 times for 49 yards and Andre? Derosier picked up 45 yards on 7 carries. Andre Derosier had several kick and punt returns for long runs. Landon Hartwick completed 11 of 19 passes for 103 yards and 1 touchdown and scored on an 8 yard run. The Jackrabbits picked up 19 first downs but on the negative side were penalized 11 times for 100 yards. The Jackrabbit defense was again awesome up front with Clint Kiger, Kenneth Parker and Jacob Barkham leading the charge. The Jackrabbit linebackers, Aaron Woods, Jordan Elder, Nick Tanner, Micah Roberts, Darnell Golsby and Tyler Sanders were very active again shutting off the running lanes and harassing the quarterback. The Jackrabbit secondary did a great job shutting off the Hawks pass routes and batting the ball down. Josh Hughes, Justin Price, Matt McEuen and Deondre Smith allowed only 8 completions for 68 yards.
