Andre DeRosier rushed for 181 yards including a 61 yard touchdown run leading the Forney Jackrabbits to their first District win, 29 to 24 over the Poteet Pirates.
The Jackrabbits scored first on a 22 yard field goal by Thomas Moreland with 5:22 left in the first quarter. Early in the 2nd quarter Landon Hartwick found Bobby Lind in the end zone for a 33 yard touchdown. With 9:22 in the 2nd quarter the Jackrabbits took a 9 to 0 lead after the 2 point conversion attempt failed. The Pirates answered with a touchdown on a 5 yard run by Taylor DuPree. On the next series Andre DeRosier broke free up the middle and went 61 yards for a touchdown outrunning the Pirate defenders with 4:54 left in the half. Thomas Moreland's try for point was good giving the Jackrabbits a 16 to 7 lead. With just seconds left in the half the Pirates moved the ball downfield and managed a 21 yard field goal as time ran out in the half. The Jackrabbits held a 16 to 10 halftime lead.
Andre DeRosier broke free in the 3rd quarter for another long run but was pushed out of bounds at the Poteet 5 yard line to set up the Jackrabbits 3rd touchdown a 3 yard run by Matt McEuen. Thomas Moreland's kick was good puting the Jackrabbits up 23 to 10 at 7:50 of the 3rd quarter. Poteet battled back and scored on a 1 yard run by Quarterback Seth Sartain to cut the Jackrabbits lead to 23 to 17.
Early in the 4th quarter the Pirates took the lead 24 to 23 on a 9 yard run by Calvin Smith with 10:04 left in the game. The Jackrabbits wasted no time scoring on a 61 yard touchdown pass from Landon Hartwick to Matt McEuen. The Jackrabbits 2 point conversion try failed again and the Jackrabbits led the Pirates 29 to 24 with 8:02 left in the game. Late in the game the Jackrabbits moved into scoring position but Thomas Moreland's 42 yard field goal attempt came up short leaving the door open for Poteet with 2:42 left but with the help of penalties and a Jordan Elder interception the Jackrabbits held on for the win.
Andre Derosier was outstanding rushing 27 times for 181 yards including the 61 yard touchdown run. Quarterback Landon Hartwick had his best performance completing 13 of 19 passes for 184 yards and 2 touchdowns of 33 and 61 yards. Bobby Lind caught 6 passes for 66 yards including the 33 yard touchdown. Sophmore running back Matt McEuen touched the ball twice and scored on a 3 yard run and a 61 yard Hartwick pass. Tony Trotter caught 4 passes and Tyler Monroe caught 2.
For the second week in a row the Jackrabbit defense was outstanding.
