Aledo 21 - Forney 3

The Forney Jackrabbits opened the 2005 season at City Bank Stadium against the Metroplex's 8th ranked class 4A team the Aledo Bearcats.  The Jackrabbits won the coin toss and deferred to Aledo.  After Aledo made 2 first downs they were forced to punt to the Jackrabbits.  On the Jackrabbits first offensive play Sophmore Quarterback Landon Hartwick scrambling to his right completed a pass to the Bearcats 38 yard line.   On 2nd and 8 the Jackrabbits fumbled the ball back to the Bearcats.  The Bearcats scored on a 4 yard run by Cole Loftin with 2:35 left in the 1st Quarter.  The Bearcats kicked to the Jackrabbits and Andre' Derosier returned the kick to the 28 yard line.  The Jackrabbits were unable to move the ball and punted back to Aledo.  The Bearcats starting from their own 36 yard line were unable to move the ball and had  to punt to the Jackrabbits.  This time the Jackrabbits were starting from their own 22 yard line.  On 1st down Hartwick made a great fake and Bobby Lind ran the ball to the 44 yard line.  The Jackrabbits then moved down to the Bearcat 33 yard line.  Hartwick ran the ball to the 25 yard line for a 1st down.  On the next play Hartwick was intercepted by Aledo's Cole Loftin and he returned the interception 51 yards to the Jackrabbit 35 yard line.  Aledo  moved the ball to the Forney 22 for a first down with 3:23 left in the half.  Aledo continued to move the ball and had a 1st and goal at the 5 yard line.  With 1:18 left in the half Loftin scored on 3rd down from the 4 yard line giving Aledo a 14 to 0 first half lead.

The Jackrabbits fumbled the second half kickoff back to their own 8 yard line.  Forney went 3 and out and punted the ball back to Aledo.  The Bearcats starting from the Jackrabbit 35 scored their 3rd touchdown on a 33 yard pass to Cole Loftin.  With 8:03 in the 3rd Quarter Aledo led Forney 21 to 0.  Starting from their own 15 yard line, Hartwick passed to Mekelle Webb for 23 yards moving thre ball out to the 38 yard line.  The Jackrabbits stalled and punted back to Aledo.  Aledo was unable to move the ball and punted back to the Jackrabbits with 3:34 left in the 3rd Quarter.  Starting from their 24 yard line the Jackrabbits Tyler Monroe ran the ball down to the Aledo 33 yard line breaking several tackles.  The Jackrabbits moved the ball 61 yards in 9 plays to the 15 yard line before stalling out.  The Jackrabbit's kicker, Thomas Moreland came on with 11:00 left in the game and kicked a 32 yard field goal to get the Jackrabbits on the scoreboard.   The Jackrabbits showed flashes of solid offense and the defense played tough.  The two teams looked similar on offense with Aledo having only 1 yard more total offense.  The Jackrabbits defense held Aledo to 2.4 yards per rushing attempt while the Jackrabbits averaged 4 yards per rush.  The Jackrabbit offensive line did a great job opening holes for Jackrabbit runners and protecting the Quarterback.  The Jackrabbits 2 turnovers were very costly considering both times they were moving the ball well and were in scoring range. The Jackrabbits play Sulphur Springs next Friday at Sulphur Springs.
